I’m not one to take advice from television shows. I don’t really watch shows like Oprah, Dr. Oz, or anyone of similar ilk. However, I happened to catch a little bit of Dr. Weil on Dr. Oz (can I say Dr. enough?) when he was talking about his keys to happiness. A few things stuck out to me.

First, 4-7-8 breathing is awesome. Look it up and try it. I’ve made it daily practice.

What stuck with me most though was how Weil practices the art of gratitude. He keeps a gratitude journal.

In modern society, especially in more developed countries, most of us are not thankful enough. We seem to want more and more and are not happy until we get what we want. Even when we do it seems we are still not pleased and want more.

Gratitude is accepting and being thankful for what we do have. I think we should also take it further and try to ensure that others less-fortunate, or in need, are thankful as well.

I want to start being more thankful for the blessings in my life. More thankful for what I have instead of getting caught in the endless spiral of want and need.

So, I decided to start a gratitude journal. It’s online actually and you are more than welcome to read it. I recommend starting one yourself. You can find mine at: http://arigatai.tumblr.com/

Be thankful for what you have. If you have been blessed with abundance, then give. If you are in need, reach out. Gratitude is an integral part in building communities.
